Canadian Apple iPhone Class-Action Settlement Fund 2024, Eligibility Terms, Amount, and Dates

The Apple iPhone Class Action Lawsuit in Canada started in 2018. It’s all about some serious problems with various iPhone models like iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7, and 7 Plus. People said these phones had issues like slowing down, bad batteries, and shutting down unexpectedly because of software updates.

Lots of folks from different places in Canada, like British Columbia and Ontario, went to court about this. They joined together in a class action lawsuit against Apple.

Recap of the Canada Apple iPhone Slowdown Lawsuit

The lawsuit says that some iPhone models had a problem because of certain software versions like 10.2.1, 10.3, 11, and 11.2. This problem is called “throttling,” which means the phone was made to work slower on purpose.

People who are taking legal action say that the iPhone batteries were not good and got old too fast. Because of this, the phones would suddenly turn off, especially when it was cold or the battery was low.

The lawsuit also says that Apple kept important information about the phone’s problems a secret.

Eligibility Terms:

If you want to join in, your iPhone should have had iOS 10.2.1 or a newer version, or iOS 11.2 or a newer version, installed or downloaded before December 21, 2017. The iPhones that had this issue include iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7, and 7 Plus.

Canadian Apple Class Action Settlement Amount

Apple has said they will pay an amount between $11,137,500 and $14,427,500. But, let’s be clear, this doesn’t mean Apple is saying they did something wrong. They’re saying they didn’t do anything wrong.

How much money each person gets will depend on a few things, but it could be up to $150 for each iPhone that meets the lawsuit’s rules. After the court says yes to this agreement, they will tell people how to ask for the money.

Canada Apple Class Action Settlement Final Hearing Date

There’s going to be a big decision on January 29, 2024, in a courthouse in Vancouver, British Columbia. The court will decide if Apple’s plan to settle is okay or not. If the court says yes, they will give clear instructions on how people can ask for the money.

Legal Rights and Options for Canada Apple Class Members

People had a few choices to make. One option was to say they don’t want to be part of the big group suing Apple. They had to decide this by January 10, 2024. If they choose this, they can try to sue Apple on their own, but they won’t get any money from this group case.

Another choice was to say they don’t like the deal that was made for the group. If they had any problems with it, they could write a letter to the Class Counsel before 5 PM on January 10, 2024.

The last choice was to not do anything. If they did nothing, they would still be part of the group case if they were eligible. But, it also means they have to follow whatever the court says about this case.

2. The serial number of their iPhone.
3. They have to promise under oath that they had the right iOS version before December 21, 2017, and that their iPhone didn’t work well after that.
