In Maharashtra, the voting process for 2,353 Gram Panchayats took place on Sunday (5th). In some Gram Panchayats, the elections were uncontested. Direct elections were held for the position of Sarpanch in all these Gram Panchayats. Approximately 74% voter turnout has been reported statewide.
Rohit Pawar, the NCP MLA, faced defeat in the Jamkhed Gram Panchayat elections. The BJP emerged victorious in six Gram Panchayats in the Karjat Taluka, led by MLA Ram Shinde and Udaysinh Patil. Meanwhile, the charismatic Karjat North Vidhansabha MLA Balasaheb Patil of the Nationalist Congress Party has secured his influence over three Gram Panchayats.

In Vadgaon Gupta in Nagar taluka, BJP’s candidate, Vijay Shevale, from Kardele group, has won the Sarpanch position. The opposition candidate, Dilip Gavhane, has also been elected. An opposition candidate secured one out of the 15 member seats. However, during the vote counting, some tension was observed between the two groups, resulting in a minor altercation.
In the Mahaganpati Gram Panchayat of Ranjangaon, 13 seats, including the position of Sarpanch, have been secured by Ajit Pawar’s group. However, this is seen as a setback for Sharad Pawar’s group, which has managed to secure only three seats.
In Arangaon, the alliance led by MLA Lankesh Lankesh has gained control. In Nagar taluka, the sensitive Arangaon Gram Panchayat has been won by the panel led by Nilesh Lankesh. The Sarpanch seat has been secured by Vijay Popat Pund.
