India rocked the International Emmy Awards 2023! We snagged not one, but two Emmys this time. One went to Vir Das for his Netflix special called “Vir Das Landing.” It’s like this super funny stand-up show, and it won the International Emmy for Comedy.
The biggest names in global television were honored at the 2023 International Emmy Awards on Monday night (Tuesday morning in India). There were 56 nominees from 20 different countries across six continents. Netflix was on fire with two best comedy nominees – one for the UK series “Derry Girls” and the other for our very own Vir Das. And you know what? Both of them took home the Best Comedy Series awards. Way to go, India!
International Emmy Awards 2023
Awesome news at the 2023 Emmys! Martin Freeman, who did a fantastic job in the drama “The Responder,” scooped up the Best Actor award.
Also, our man Jim Sarbh got a nomination for Best Actor. He nailed it as the lead in the Indian aerospace drama “Rocket Boys.”
In the drama series category, “The Empress” from Germany (Sommerhaus Serien) took home the Best Drama Series award.
For the Best Documentary, “Mariupol: The People’s Story” from the UK (Top Hat Productions / Hayloft Productions / BBC) stole the show.
Karla Souza rocked the Best Actress category with her role in the Mexican sports drama “Dive.” She beat out tough competition, including our very own Shefali Shah, who was nominated for Season 2 of Netflix’s “Delhi Crime.” By the way, “Delhi Crime” scored big by winning Best Drama at the 2020 International Emmys.
A special shoutout to Ekta Kapoor, co-founder of Balaji Telefilms, who bagged the 2023 International Emmy Directorate Award. That’s a major achievement! Big congrats to all the winners! 🏆✨
Vir Das’ big win
Vir Das got nominated for an International Emmy again! This time, it’s for his Netflix special called “Vir Das: Landing.” He was up against some tough competition like Le Flambeau, El Encargado, and Derry Girls Season 3. But here’s the awesome part – Vir Das not only won, but he also shared the prize with Derry Girls Season 3. It’s a big deal because he’s the first Indian comedian to grab this award.
